If you prefer – you can listen to our update….
A big thank you – for taking your time to contact us about volunteering with the Red Hen Project, and a bigger thank you for your patience. We are sorry for the delay in getting back in contact with you – the pandemic has seen an explosion in need for our services, as you might imagine. We are now able to resource volunteering more effectively and want to reach out to you to:
Explain how things look now:
Put simply, raising a family, is hard – even when things are going well. Imagine adding to that an illness, financial difficulties, employment worries, relationship breakdown, housing crises, etc. and it is not difficult to understand why Red Hen is so very valuable and ‘never more needed. The Covid pandemic means families need our support more than ever. Every hour given by a volunteer makes a significant contribution to improving a child’s life.
Over the past year and a half Red Hen’s core team has grown three-fold! One of these new people is Jen Rutter! Part of her role is to recruit and support volunteers. She is excited to learn more about you and the impact we can make together, to add value to the families that need us the most.
Why volunteer with us?
In exchange for your time, skills, and experience, she will support you throughout your volunteering journey, matching you with the role or task that is right for you. We will provide an initial induction, and if needed, training to prepare you for your role and the opportunity to meet other volunteers.
What Red Hen is doing next?
We are actively recruiting volunteers to start working with us in September 2021. If you are still interested and able to volunteer, there are several role descriptions here.
We are also in the process of developing more roles focused around fundraising, communications, and social media – so definitely get in touch if this is your area of interest.
However, one of our aims is to enable everyone to feel that they can volunteer, whether for one hour a month or several days a week. Would you be willing to join our Red Hen Volunteer WhatsApp group? It is for ad hoc “micro-volunteering” (a trendy new work for individual tasks rather than defined roles). This could be a wide range of things, such as collecting donations, proofreading documents, washing some donated school uniform, helping at events, sharing things on social media, etc.

What do you need to do now?
1) Confirm via email whether you are still available and interested in volunteering – to givesupport@redhenproject.org – include whether you are happy to be added to our volunteer group on WhatsApp.
3) Get in touch to have a short ‘discovery’ call with Jen Rutter: (no more than 30 minutes) for us to get to know each other more and work out how we match your skills and experience. Please find a link to Jen’s calendar click here . If the times do not suit. (she is working limited hours over the school holidays), she can pick things up with you between 9.30-14.30 from September the 7th.
3) Help with our School Uniform & Resources Bank: the demand for school uniforms continues to soar due to the lasting economic effects of the pandemic. Are you in a position to buy one gift or arrange a collection of pre-loved uniform? We will make sure they get to a local child in need.
4) Review our first volunteer role descriptions to see if one suit you (or two!)
Whatever your decision, we’d love to keep in touch*.
